趣味について
Sarah,who is an American girl, is talking to Michiko.
Sarah：What kind of hobbies do Japanese girls have,Michiko?
Michiko：Well,they're very interested in sports.
Sarah：Oh? What sports?
Michiko：Volleybaill is very popula - and bowling is,too.
Sarah：Do you bowl?
Michiko：Yes.Bowling's my hobby.
Sarah：What's your average?
Michiko：It's not very good. Somewhere around a hundred. What's yours?
Sarah：I don't bowl
Michiko：You don't? I thought all American girl bowlded.
Sarah：No.Bowling's very popular, of course, but not everybody bowls.
Michiko：What's your hobby,Sarah?
Sarah：I'm learning the shamisen.
Michiko：Dis you say the shamisen?
Sarah：Yes.
Michiko：That's interesting.
Sarah：What is?
Michiko：My hobby is Western and yours is Japanese.

1.hobbies
日本で「趣味」というと、「読書と散歩」あるいは「旅行」あたりが無難なところと考えられいるようですが、、「私の趣味は読書です」と言うとアメリカ人にけげんそうな顔をされます。どうやら彼らの感覚では「読書」というのはhobbyのうちに入らないようです。hobbyはスポーツや手芸などのほか、「切手の収集」、「薔薇の栽培」、「無線操縦の飛行機」などがあげられます。また、ham(アマチュア無線)は「hobbyの王様」だと言う人もいます。
2.volleyball
「バレーボール」のことですが、日本語かされて言いますので発音に注意しましょう。
3.bowling
「ボーリング」のこと。これも発音に注意。
4.average
「平均得点」のこと。日本語でもアベレージと言います。
5.Somewhere
「およそ～のあたり」
6.around
このaroundはaboutでもよい。I think John lives around here somewhere.のように、場所をさすときにはaroundを使うことが多い。

yoursはyour averageのこと
8.You don't?
文の形としては疑問文ではありませんが、文の最後をあげて話すとこのように疑いや驚きを表すことになります。
9.I thought all American girls bowled.
I thoughtのあとにthatが省略されています。このようなthatは、誤解される恐れのない時には省略されるのが普通です。
10.not everybody
「だれもが～するわけではない」部分否定です。everybody,everyoneなどは単数の扱いです。
11.What's your hobby?
動詞のhaveをつかってWhat hobbies do you have?のようにも言います。
12.the shamisen
「楽器を演奏する」という時には、play the pino, practice the guitarのように楽器にtheをつけます。
13.What's is?
That's interesting.(それは面白い)と相手が言ったので「何が面白いの？」と聞き返したのです。
What is interesting?の意味です。
